The Art of giving - A FREE portrait Event

So much to do, so little time to do it all in, I can feel all my prayer request support flowing in ... got on the ole e-mail machine and some calls to my family and I'm feeling better already. I also scratch off some major things off of my to do list today. Lillian and I were putting out a few Christmas lights ... when I made an not so pretty comment about the state of our gutters ... inside we went to warm up a bit. When we were all surprised by a knock at the door and there stood our old gutter guy ... asking if we needed our gutters cleaned. The International Help-Portrait Event is Saturday, and I just can't wait for em to see how beautiful they are! I'm so excited, I got some FREE Ursobeautiful2me T-Shirts to give away and this photo lab is donating (25cents) 5X7 prints just for this event. I also have about 12-5X7 frames (that were donated to the studio last year) I'm gonna surprise some of my subjects with.  Amazed N HIS grace. SonyaLa ... What about U?

Expecting 2 swing

every year I take a picture of this swing, it is just a short walk from our house.  Today I feel as if I'm on this swing, my feet touching the ground, but I'm not swinging, I've lost touch with the rhythem of me ... my song, be it a bit different is the song that God gave me to sing ... my tone, be it a bit different is the tone HE so blessed me with, so I'll pray for the return of my song with great expectations to push off with my own two feet and swing again.

Page Rank Possibilities

As creatives ... we love and support one another with experience, wisdom and wit ... but we also need to seek others for buying power and that is what the possibility of an awesome page ranking brings, it can drive those seeking information on a topic or topics ... straight to your blog, website and to your shop. We gotta drive em to see our stuff somehow and page rank plus SEO are the power in our pockets.

From the Attic 2 the Wall

This mourning I woke up still full of Thanksgiving for this box and the nudge to buy the domain for the E-book I've been working on this week ... Blogging Revelations ... I was sure surprised to find a sale at GoDaddy, I was able to snag this domain for less than $8.00. WOW!

that's my Daddy, the tall, dark & handsome teacher
Four years ago today, I lost my Daddy. He was the most wonderful Dad in the world, one who allowed us all to see him just as he was, imperfections and all. What a blessed childhood me and my two brothers and sister had. Thanks to the unshakable faith and dreams of this man, I so lovingly call Daddie. Our family documents and photos had been in storage for the last four years and this week the box was released and yesterday with love and forgiveness ... we watch hours of family dinners, birthdays and more. What a special blessing technology is. My daughter got to see her name sake via video!

My Dad was a career military man, a mechanic, a teacher, a man of honor a man of service. The United States Air Force sent our Dad to Europe, when I was about eighteen months old (so the story goes) and we went with him. We lived in a french trailer for our first year or so. Then we moved, to Mildenhall England where we lived in a dream chalet, we picnicked in the fields by day and played on spiral stair cases by night. My brothers and sister attended school during the day as well but I was just a bit to young to go.

My days of knitting with my Mother and her Wives Club friends are some of the sweetest childhood memories I have. When we packed the container to move back to the states, all of my Mother's Wives Club friends gifted her with precious British antiques & I inherited one of them with the death of my Dad, an antique clock, which was stored in my attic until today when I spied Beth's Do What You Love art and creative enterprise retreat. Just a few moments later I learned that the town of Meldenhall is around 150 mile from Yorkshire (the location of the retreat). I met Beth during Kelly Rae's first online e-class (which is now an E-book). It was during Kelly's class, that I first began to allow myself to dream out loud about returning to England, to the place or even the ground where all those women loved and supported my Mother and me. So, we're dreaming BIG over here and we're dreaming OUT loud ... so you can here me.

In honer of my parents love and their dream to live and raise a family abroad ... I climbed the stairs to the attic, grab the hands of old man time and hung em on my very wall ... cause I too can dream BIG, just as my parents did. Are you DreamN BIG?

Blogging Revelations was a seed planted many months ago with about 9 revelations to help you grow your blog. The revelations are presented straight with no chaser or fluff, and some of it just ain't pretty & now the revelations ain't so small ... somehow (after praying)I'm so THANKFUL 4 HIM ... while writing it all out I ended up with more than 80 revelations, not the 9 I had planned on. So I've decided to go with the new plan, the more than 80 plan and leave the price at $11.95 ... but it's gonna take me a bit longer to get it done. I must get back at it ... updates to follow.

the Ebook - Blogging Revelations

One day it just hit me, yes, you know like a ton of bricks, or dropped in my head from the sky as I was walking by. Then I started to do the research and I got some pretty sweet confirmation. But none of this happen before I took some courses about blogging that I am completely Thankful for. If you think ... you can Have it your way, think again. Blogging Revelations is served straight, no chaser, no fluff, no pretty pictures, just the facts.

Blogging Revelations - the Ebook

As a modern day newspaper page designer/copy/photo editor, I was required to edit Associated Press copy  and photos in order to create a daily newspaper page by page, night by night. Daily newspapers are created at night, so they are fresh news in your driveway before your coffee is perked in the morning. But my job didn't end there, another job requirement was for me to meet a nightly deadline at the press, which required transmitting the newspaper files to the press via the Internet. Well I bet you though my job ended there ... guess what it didn't. I was also required to create a blog post every 15 minutes. Yes, I had to select some content, select a photo and or mug shots and write a headline ... every 15 minutes. Considering, the fact, that my two children were home alone and the local emergency scanner might just blast my home address across the line at any moment, I just had to quit.

In my E-Book ... Blogging Revelations ... I will revel some secrets I have stumble upon. If the threaten Newspaper Industry deems it necessary to blog news every 15 minutes ... what does that say about consistency? Find out more ... Buy the e-book Blogging Revelations ... coming soon Thursday November 25, 2010. What started as nine revelations, has turned into more than eighty ... but I also found a note written by my hand that spoke of an old German Proverb ... He who is afraid of doing too much always does too little.

The Art of Giving - Donate Art

My first Holiday Open House and Studio tour went very well, many friends and family members dropped by both Saturday & Sunday. Each guest received a special gift of Art inspired by HIM from me. But then I found myself removing framed artwork from my studio wall as a donation for a local ministry's annual silent auction ... Last call for Grace. As mixed media artwork, both pieces contain my photography. And, I just want to share with you how I am amazed in his grace today as this silent auction became a photo assignment event for me ... can you believe how HE flipped a love donation into work. I can cause that's just how HE is ... his mercy is everlasting!

The Art of Giving - A Book

One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to live Fully Right Where You Are
                   By Ann Voskamp
There is nothing like the gift of a newly released book! Well wrapped of course. Cause this Christmas I'm banN the ever popular gift bag on this blog and under our tree!

A creativity confession in early 2009 in which I explained to a potential client my creative process for logo creation prompted this Sunday School friend to declare the title of my first book ... Learning to Here the Voice of God and I thought our meeting was about his website. Later, after the meeting, when I approached our FATHER in reference to an image for this logo ... I received an instant answer and prayed myself right out of this particular freelance gig ... my reply from HIM ... My word is sufficient.

So, this Sunday evening has been busy and I have some links to share with you ...

A Question from Beth Nicholls

stuff designed by me ... made by my dear departed Daddy

Tell me, why did you give your blog the name that you did?

Well Beth, lets see ... It's a bit of a long story, but I will try to give you the short story.  My Mother & Dad, were both extremely creative peeps, my Dad the constant photographer/woodworker & my Mother, the seamstress/gardener. My Dad's short military name was Mac and this is what my Mother called her love and my Dad ... Mac. So my Daddy (MAC)  would build/create the stuff I would design on paper ... I would draw it ... he would make it. That's how my blog name (sonyamacdesigns) was born ... way before blogging ... way before websites. Now, what about you ... Why did you give your blog the name that you did?

love is a VERB # 1

Reading, reading and more reading ... I must have enrolled myself in some kind of school, while my back was turned to me. I'm on my fourth week of writing  in the Artist Way Journal, (reading the book as well) I only missed two days of the last twenty-one days ... Yep, I'm patting myself on my back. Finding Divine Inspiration was such a speed read for me, that I just might have to reread it to join in on the Book Discussion at Created by Faith site. I've fallen in love with Janice Elsheimer and all she has to share in her book The Creative Call. It just feels good to have some written background on Creative Collaborations with the Father, All four of these books have really help me to see my creatively more clearly. You can find these links to these titles and more in the right sidebar. What are you reading these days?

From Rebecca 2 Sonya

This week in my mail box I discovered my very first ornament for the exchange I am doing with friends from Kelly Rae's Flying Lessons Class. Organized by Suzanna. It's from Rebecca 2 me. And it felt so grand to open something other than a bill. I thought this package was intended for some famed magazine editor or something, so thoughtful ... right down to the very last detail ... some pretty printed clear tape. Thanks Rebecca ... U made my day! And, your ornament is the first to hang on this little studio Christmas tree. Have you started any new Christmas traditions this year?

He was waitN 4 U

What was it that made her miss the bus, was it the weight of her bags, or the familiar smell of defeat. Sabrina, Daughter of the King, he was waiting for you the entire time. The bus driver saw you in his rear view mirror. He saw you open the door and step out into the fresh new day with great faith. He saw you begin to run down the walk way with fierce speed and determination. He saw you steady your pace as the rubber of your shoes hit the pavement of the busy street. But, then you paused, you hesitated ... for reasons unknown you turned back. I was standing there with him as a witness. He was waiting for you Princess Sabrina. I could see it on his face as he opened the little window to speak to me. He planned to greet you daughter with an open door. once you boarded the bus he planned to give you a great big smile. Can you see the sheer disappointment on his face as he and I realized you just quit the race?

Generosity in Giving

It's Week 2 of Generosity! on Spring Inspiration

The Spring prompt of the week is: When and/or how does generosity turn into being taken advantage of?

Wikipedia defines generosity as the habit of giving freely without expecting anything in return. When the choice is no longer that of the giver then one is being taken advantage of. When saying yes to someone = saying NO to ourselves then one is being taken advantage of. Often the calls or request, come out of the blue or are presented as impulisive opportunities for one to give or share. This is why, it's O so important to plan your giving and to maintain a giving calendar, so you can self protect and not be caught off guard.

Fall Quilt Market 2010

Copyright Sonya La McCllough 2010

Every time I turn my head someone, somewhere is talking about or blogging about The Fall Quilt Market in Houston, so since this sister has an Internet connection, I thought I would just jump right in and see what all the talk is about. Two new to quilt market fabric designers were a hit .... Jenean Morrison & Daisy Janie. Amy Butler, Anna Marie Horner and Tina Givens continue to create waves with their sassy booth work and their fabric designs. Lizzy House speaks up and share the not so glamours side of market. And I just love the design work of Tula Pink ... and then there is this list ... below ... The Bond & respond QUILT has made it home and True's Momma sends her gratitude and many Thanks!

Standing Here

Standing here on the other side of this pond, my pond ... the pond I dug out of the ground, on a random Sunday, with a friend who is no longer a friend, who was maybe never a friend. I dug the clay colored dirt out and thew it to the side, I used that dirt to fill other holes in the yard, but yet this giant hole still remained, so we covered the hole with some store bought plastic and filled it with my tears. And now I'm standing here, no longer who I was ... AND ... I am yet who I'm meant to be! Reflections on looking forward to the new ME!

Ornament Swap

Been sewing more & more lately. Last week I made a new cover for my art table and this week, I'm whipping up some ornaments for the ornament exchange I'm doing with friends from Kelly Rae's Flying Lessons class. This is my second one, but this pleating process is not something to rush. I got the idea from one of those grocery store magazines, I didn't want to buy just for the instructions to create these little jewels. I wanted to create a handmade ornament, that was pretty simple and super economic to mail. So after several key word combinations, I finally located some sew easy instructions to share with you. Because it's a swap I'm expecting some pretty nifty ornaments in my mail box as well. Like this one from Ornament Exchange idea organizer Suzanna Leigh. Lots to look forward to this busy Holiday season. How bout you?

peck with a pattern of passion & power

My pastor is on his game and Sunday Morning at ten a.m., it was game time. He is an awesome pastor but lately either I need to be feed more than ever or He is just on his game more than ever. Since, I had to be dragged to Church on Sunday, I'm gonna go with me needing to be feed. He spoke of the way we should walk daily in our Christan life and he made three points.

No Reserves
No Retreats
No Regrets

On a short walk the other day with my camera, I spotted this bird, pecking away excavating a hole in this dead tree limb for nesting. There are several types or tribes of the North American Woodpeckers and their habits are all distinctly different. But one thing is for sure, they don't stop pecking till the hole is made and all the while they do this with ...

these are the tools my pastor spoke of on Sunday and we all have the same access to em, but do we use em, do we use one with the other or do we use one without the other. Or do we wait and use all three, all the time cause we have NO Reserves. Do you have any reserves, any reservation about the assignment HE has equipped you for and placed right before your very eyes? I was beginning to have some doubts ... until Sunday morning.
