What are you wearing for New Years Eve?

from my sketchbook 12-30-10
Are you wearing a dress or pants? Are you going out at all? I once flew to Chicago for New Years Eve, only to discover my relatives planned a small family dinner for us at home. A new year means, many things to many people. For many it marks the beginning, something new, something fresh, something different. But, for many it also marks the end. This we must remember as we begin again, & again.

Happy New Year!

What is your unique gift?

This is a question Lisa Sonora Beams poses in her book The Creative Entrepreneur. This is a question, that  caused me to pause while listening to one of Holly Becker's podcast during her e-course Blogging Your way. Since both of my parents are deceased, it's painful to look back and even more pain full to dig back, but I did it anyway and yes I cried. My Mother read my thoughts in my journals, when I wasn't looking, until one day I caught her, as a rebellious child this event caused me to stop writing but the unique word combinations never stop flowing. I just quit capturing them. Working through all of this pain, cause me to realize that my Mother was in awe of me, in awe of the beauty she helped create. My Mother was in awe of the words I wove together.

What has really surprised me this week is how those estrange words together create unique patterns for fabric designs. One of my early dreams, when I was but a child was to design fabrics.

The research has started, the writing has started, one of my take action now steps for the new year is to design & present my first line of fabrics to and for the quilt industry.

List one of your take action now steps no for the new year

BLOG Redesign N Progress

if ya find some things a bit wacky, a redesign is in progress
but and my son's teacher called yesterday with some news
we gotta reread Tuck Everlasting .... do you have this book?

"Do You Know Where You're Going To"

Do You Know Where You're Going To"
was originally recorded by Motown artist Thelma Houston in 1973.
Her version was released as Motown single #1260.

Do you know where your going to?

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life's been showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know?

Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
But my spirit was free
Laughing at the questions
That you once asked of me

Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams
Just slip through our head
Why must we wait so long?

Before we see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be

Diana sang it, Mariah sang it.
I'm singing it right now, only I'm tone deaf.
But the words of this song
still cause me to pause.
What about you?

Have you considered snail mail lately?

I'm still so in awe of today and the Creative Biz Marathon. The Book by Lisa is a must read and a must do, my entire outlook has changed. I feel empowered to say no. I feel empowered to say yes.

A single moment of connection, bonds folks together, rather near or far. On the net or off the net. I could fell the momentum between us building & gelling us together as a team on a mission. I could feel the power of our hands working separate yet together.

I started reworking the branding for sonyamacdesigns in early December, Now this Creative Biz Marathon, got me thinking about snail mail, yes sonyamacdesigns is about to go postal. What about you, are you considering or reconsidering regular old snail mail?

Did you CRAM for final exams?

I did and more often than not I aced the exam. But, now that I look back on my high school and college days, I had little else to do then. Now I have so much to do and this business of cramming it all in, has got me dreaming of a part time assistant one day or maybe just some one to deep clean the house, once a month or so. I just rehired our gutter guy and when it rained and rained two days later ... I was stress free all for twenty five dollars. What's stressing you out, that you could hire out for the new year?

Are you expecting to hear the music?

As I sit here, I am music less, the sound of the quiet of it all races through my brain. The hum of the light is loud, almost painful to the silence. If I want the music to start, I must reach for the remote or better yet rise from my seat. That's one action, must there be another. YES, once I rise from my seat ... there are steps I must take to the box that holds the music. Do I want the music to surround me? Yes I do. After stepping forward to the hope of music, I must push the almighty POWER button. I can hear the music playing already, can you?

What did not go well in 2010?

I've been thinking about what did not go well in 2010 for me, my family & my biz, and I must take full responsibility for all plans, that just happen to go astray or did not go well. There so many learning opportunities, I can't begin
to share em all with you. I really believe there is a reason for everything, even the painful thing. So as I review 2010 in my head and on paper ... I 'm starting with the low notes of 2010 so I can end on a High note ... but, this is the thing ... every new day we get a second chance on tomorrow, so I'll not dwell on the things of yesterday, but I will try my best to be more for this day, the here, the right now  ... because as my Daddy use to say ... tomorrow is promised to no one... yesterday is but a .... amazed in HIS grace today.  It's all a expected gift. Merry Christmas

How are yoU going to end 2010 with a HIGH note?

image from

We play a little game during dinner at our house. It's a game a friend shared with me, many years ago. After some prayer time, when my children's plates are full of the mystery of what I have prepared for dinner ... we begin our high/low game at the round table. One at a time, each of us ... thinks back through our day ... and we decide on a single low point of the day, we would like to share with the family. Then we each share our low point with the family. After we share our low point, it's time to think back through our day and share our HIGH point. Each of us ends our family sharing time on a HIGH note, that's the rule of the game. End on a HIGH note.

While reflecting on this past year and looking forward to the new year, I've made a commitment to myself to cut this song (2010) on a HIGH note and I will not be singing alone - for more on this and one super special announcement, keep checking back here, but for now, let me know in the comments, how yoU plan to end 2010 on a HIGH note? That's a question, give me some answers :) ... Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Are you ready for change?

Paint brushes in a lead crystal ice bucket? A radical indication of CHANGE

On Monday, while shooting, somehow I wrenched my back and bad I tell you. Yesterday I was thinking of ramps and wheelchairs, but after some prayer time with my children and HIM prompting me to walk thought the pain, I'm hopeful that my back will soon return to my normal.

Then ... on a short painful walk to the studio, I noticed this lead crystal ice bucket frozen in time and I stepped back in the kitchen doorway and captured this image, it was at that moment I understood fully how happy I am to be me. It was at the moment of capture, that I got it. Walking or not, wheel chair or not, pain or not ... my heart would continue to be inspired, only my perspective would change.

Are you ready for change?

Santa & the Snow Man Blog Hop

I'm super excited to be  participating in Angela Flicker’s, A Crafty Blog Hop this holiday season but as a single Mother, I must confess. I only shop for my children as my folks are deceased. Our entire Christmas from, food to gifts is geared toward one 14 year old girl and one 11 year old boy. My birthday is in February and then it's time for our house to be all about me and for the entire month as the winter weather can crush a winter birthday. I always like to surprise my kiddies with ornaments and one day we hope to have a tree full of only Santa ornaments ... so I did a bit of Esty shopping and I found a few of Santa's things lurking at me ... over there. OK, so I forgot the number 3, please forgive me.
1.Glitter felt Snowman ornament
2.Adult Santa Hat
4.Santa's Red flannel long johns
5. Glass Santa Ornament
Yesterday Kristen wrote about a Handmade Easy button and tomorrow it's close to the end with DEE DEE ... Merry Christmas and remember to vote to keep Santa FREE

Are you ready for a Marathon?

new 2011 blog header
new 2011 Twitter page
new 2011 You Tube page

Trying so hard to get it all done by Friday when my children get out of school for the holidays, but they are home today and go to school, one hour late tomorrow due to snow. Working in the house and in the studio depending on the temp. My laptop has a virus, my big apple design machine is still down, even after repairs and I shot an entire plug in the studio ... No stress, at all. This is the thing guys ... when Monday January 3, rolls in ... It's my hope and prayer that I'll be ready business/personal wise on the very first day of the new year ... What about you ... Are you ready for a Marathon?

Blogging Revelations - Blogging on your Sabbath

The term "Sabbath" derives from the Hebrew Shabbat (שַׁבָּת), "to cease", which was first used in the Biblical account of the seventh day of Creation

In the year 2011, It will appear as if I blog on Sunday, but I will not be blogging on Sunday. Sunday will be my Sabbath and I will cease to blog/work on Sundays. The new year will find me using the blogger scheduler as a tool to bring more consistency to my blogging. I will be sharing a blogger case study on consistency in my upcoming E-book Blogging Revelations (how to start blogging with purposepassion and power)

On Blog Sundays I will be sharing with you highlights from sermons I've listen to or studied throughout the week.

During this Christmas season and beyond, my pastor requested that we adopt three new action words to our life and our vocabulary, these words really pierced my heart today as I looked into the eyes of one of our bus ministry children while singing There Is Room in My Heart for Thee. As I sang this tune and looked into the face of this little boy, I wondered is there room in my heart for thee, this child in my arms, this child who is not my son and then I cried ... What's new. What do tears, my tears change for any one?

How do these words speak to you, what is the result of the use of these action words in your life?

Have you intentionally set aside some time to Marveled
at/in who HE is in your life?

Have you been moved by the power of the Holy Spirit
in positive action?

Have you become a Messenger who is both
marveled and moved beyond your own thoughts

Can a Car fall from the sky?

Looks ARE deceiving ... the well ain't dry ...
keep going back ... like it's an all you can eat buffet.
Keep going back till you get so full,
you must tell everyone you know
and everyone you don't know.

Keep going back to the store, cause it ain't closed.
Keep going back to the page, cause it ain't blank.
Keep going back to the fridge, cause it ain't empty.

Keep going back, I tell you ... cause your blessing is there.

you just gotta crawl like a solider in the army ... down the street to get it
you just gotta crawl like a solider in the army ... across the room to get it
you just gotta crawl like a solider in the army ... down the hall to get it

Ms Claudia with her new car!
Meet my friend Ms Claudia ... she is my evidence for my theory above. Last week she drove her car to work, every day with no heat, she's like me an early riser, last week the temperature in Tennessee was 16 degrees. This was Ms Claudia's crawling moment and as I write this in my studio with LITTLE heat I realise this is my crawling moment.

1. On Friday she arrived at the repair shop in her old car early,
2. Repair shop says the car ain't worth fixing
3. She finds another way home
4. Starts calling friends and family for support
5. I'm one of the friends
6. I advise to at least sell her old car for junk
7. She makes more calls
8. A call back to the repair shop revels they have a donated car for her.

to be cont. after church

A local realtor purchased a new car and donated her old car (1997) Wind star to a local auto repair shop for donation. This is the car in the photo above, this is Ms Claudia's new car. I just love sharing stories of extraordinary blessings of ordinary people, What about you?

This old house

home, march 1, 2009
She was nine, he was six and I was five years younger than I am today. When we journeyed to this little place we call home. Five years of renovating, five years of building up and tearing down. Five years of making due with little, with less, five years of learning just what's best. The little, the less is we're car less and Middle Tennessee is car heavy. We walk to the store together, I get weekly rides to the grocery store, we ride the bus to church and they ride the bus to and from school, I'm here at home when the mail runs and I'm here at home, when my children get off the school bus with stories of stink bombs and agendas to be signed. We walk the dog and feed the cat, sometimes we step across the street to fish or canoe, a little ranch house with hardwood floors, a fireplace, two kids, a dog and a cat.

Tonight I listen to a free webinar ...
Yes You CAN "Write A Book In A Single Weekend!Let Me Show You How…

from Author Peggy McColl and she was single and self employed when she launched her first book. This photo above makes me dream of a winter wedding.

I'm so super excited, Google and Amazon both in the e-book business. This may change everything. This is a new day and publishing is a new game. Think about what used to be impossible is now possible. Think of delayed dreams, that now erupt again and again. Yet, this is only the beginning, and here we are in the mist of it all ... like so many who gave up radio for TV ... then radio caught a life line ... the automobile. I'm a book lover at heart, I want to fall asleep with a good one ... but boy does this e-book platform give me a better chance of falling asleep with a book title of my own. Here's to dreaming BIG! More to come on all of this news ... but this girlie got some work to do. What's the name of your book?

Sally & Me

sally & me ... boutique models ... funny now!
Today is Sally Jane's birthday and I can't begin to tell you just how old she might be or how young she really is. What does age matter, when you begin again and again from the same page ... flipping father time off as if he mattered not.

Sally and I met not long after I finished design school (1985) after I decided life in the big city, just wasn't for me, after I decided mass retailing wasn't for me. After I realized after 7 days, that Seventh Ave just wasn't for me. Now I remember, it was 1988, I had just retired, that's right ... retired from mass retailing (I started working to send myself to design school when I was 16).

She was my boss at my new boutique gig and together we worked at three Nashville boutiques, usually she was the manager and I the assistant, we walked the show floors buying clothing and jewelry and a whole lot more. We devoured our favorite Mexican foods, drank wine, and more wine, bought more clothing & stuff, than one can imagine.

We found loves together and we lost loves together, each time, sharing nothing but the hope of a lasting, loyal partnerships that would lead to marriage. Each time we would help each other mount the love horse and each time one would extend the hand to the other for the dismount with more hope than ever before.

We've both come to understand over the years, that Love and loyalty are our common ground, our connection, we've both come to understand that not everyone loves as deep as some. But we now know that we do and that's OK, if all the others walk away ... cause we loved em with everything we got with everything we've been given and when we run low on love, we've found ourselves to be the Well girls, we both know, where the Well is, sometimes we just need a little help to get to it.

We have this singleness, nakedness connection with each other, that most will never know ... she is my sister, our lives have been in such a parallel state for so long ... it's one of the most amazing and honest relationships I have ever known, loved and honored.
